Freight Farm Comes to Exact Sciences

In March, we welcomed a new addition to our Discovery Campus in Madison. Freight Farm is a hydroponic farm housed in a converted shipping container, where we’ll soon grow nutrient-dense foods for our campus kitchens. This will allow us to offer fresh, high-quality food at a lower cost to our employees.

Hydroponic farms are sustainable alternatives to traditional farming because they are locally sourced and don’t use soil or pesticides. Instead, they grow food using energy efficient LED lights and less than five gallons of nutrient-dense water per day. Having Freight Farm in our backyard also reduces our “food miles” to just a few steps, which cuts out the environmental impacts of shipping.
